HOW DOES REJUVAPEN WORK?
Rejuvapen uses tiny needles to penetrate the skin. The sleek design allows your provider to control the speed and depth. Thousands of micro-perforations are created on the skin. As a result, the skin shifts its natural repair mechanism into high gear and starts producing collagen and elastin to repair these micro-perforations. This self-repairing property of the skin is a 100% natural form of skin renewal from the inside out. Rejuvapen’s advantage over other treatments is that it not only activates cell regeneration, it also enhances the absorption of topicals into the skin.
Adjustable needle length from .2 to 2.5mm allows customized treatments from skin freshening to deep scar repair anywhere on the body. Skin becomes firmer and regains its elasticity, fine lines and wrinkles are visibly reduced, pores become firmer, circulation is stimulated and the overall condition of the skin improves.
After the initial treatment, patients often notice that their skin has a healthy pink glow and that fine lines are diminished. Skin naturally takes roughly four weeks to synthesize new collagen, but it is not until about four months that patients can see the full effect of Rejuvapen treatments. It is suggested that patients receive four treatments, spaced at least two weeks apart.
The Rejuvapen treatment is a micro-needling treatment that stimulates the production of collagen in the skin. Since micro-needling enhances the production of collagen the treatment can reverse the signs of sun damage, improve the appearance of acne scars, stretch marks and hyper-pigmentation. Fine lines and wrinkles can be reduced and an overall healthier appearance of the skin will occur.
Before your appointment, please be sure to follow the before care instructions that your provider will give you. This includes not using Accutane for the past 6 months. Also, no Retin-A products can be used 24 hours prior to treatment. In addition, no autoimmune therapies or products 24 hours prior to treatment.
We also ask that you avoid unprotected sun exposure for two weeks prior to treatment. We can’t treat sunburned skin. Also, if you are prone to cold sores, start your medication two days prior to your Rejuvapen treatment. Finally, on day of your treatment, please arrive with freshly cleaned skin.
Areas to Treat: Microneedling can be used on all skin parts of the body (neck, décolleté, arms, legs and face.)
What is the downtime?
Typically the healing time depends on the severity of the damaged skin and the depth of the procedure. Most commonly there may be some redness that resembles mild sunburn. This may last for 2-4 days. Some patients may have the redness dissipate within 24 hours. The skin will be pink or red in appearance for 24-48 hours, much like a sunburn with some minor bleeding and very occasionally some mild bruising. The skin may also feel warm, tight and itchy for a short while. Generally the inflammatory reaction of the skin is short and fades significantly after a couple of days. Patients with a more sensitive skin type or older patients may take longer to fully recover.
Use tepid water to cleanse the face for the first 48 hours following treatment and drying the area gently without rubbing. Always use clean hands to avoid infection. Avoid applying makeup products for the first 12 hours following treatment. Your aesthetician will advise you on use of appropriate, gentle skincare following the treatment.
It can take between 6-8 weeks before visible signs of skin regeneration are seen and the process will continue to evolve over the ensuing months providing a gradual improvement.

CONTRAINDICATIONS TO MICRO-NEEDLING
Although it is impossible to list every potential risk and complication, the following are recognized as known contraindications to micro-needling. Furthermore, it is your responsibility to fully and accurately disclose all medical history prior to initial treatment, as well as to provide any necessary updates at all future treatment sessions. If you have any of the conditions listed below, you should bring it to the attention of your esthetician or healthcare provider PRIOR to signing the consent form.
Active acne Hemophilia / bleeding disorders Scleroderma Active infection of any type (bacterial, viral, or fungal) Hormone Replacement Therapy Skin Cancer Blood thinner medications Keloid/hypertrophic scarring Sunburn Cardiac disease/abnormalities Raised lesions (moles, warts, etc.) Tattoos Chemotherapy or radiation Recent chemical peel procedure Telangiectasia/erythema Collagen Vascular Disease Recent use of some topical Rx. Uncontrolled diabetes Eczema, Psoriasis, or Dermatitis Rosacea Vascular lesions (hemangiomas)
RISKS OF MICRO-NEEDLING
Although the majority of patients do not experience any complications with micro-needling, it is important you understand that risks do exist. The micro-needling procedure is minimally invasive and uses a set of microneedles to inflict multiple, tiny, punctures/lacerations to the outermost layer of the skin. Because microneedling penetrates the skin, it inherently carries health risks, including but not limited to those listed below. You should discuss any and all health concerns with your esthetician or attending healthcare provider PRIOR to signing this consent form.
INFECTION – Infection is very unusual. However, viral, bacterial, and fungal infections can occur any time the integrity of the skin is compromised. Should infection occur, you must contact or return to our office immediately, as additional treatment will likely be necessary.
PIGMENT/COLOR CHANGE (hyperpigmentation) – Because the dermal penetration associated with micro-needling is so superficial it doesn’t extend into the layer of the skin containing melanocytes, hyperpigmentation is very rare. However, failure to follow post-treatment instructions can put you at risk for hyperpigmentation. You MUST avoid sun exposure for 1 to 2 weeks after a micro-needling treatment. You should also wear a daily SPF facial moisturizer, which your practitioner can recommend. Lastly, avoid picking and/or peeling the skin during healing period.
SCARRING – Although normal healing after the procedure is expected, abnormal scars may occur in both the skin and deeper tissues. In rare cases, thickened or keloid scars may result, especially if you are prone to keloid scarring anyway. Scars may be unattractive and of different color than surrounding skin. Additional treatments may be needed to treat scarring. PAIN – There may be a very slight burning, scratchy, and irritated sensation to the skin. This is usually temporary and is gone within a few hours after treatment. A sudden reappearance of redness or pain is a sign of infection, and you should notify our office immediately.
PERSISTENT REDNESS, ITCHING, AND/OR SWELLING – Itching, redness, and swelling are normal parts of the healing process. These symptoms rarely persist longer than 24 hours. However, treatments received less than 4 weeks apart may induce prolonged symptoms. ALLERGIC REACTION – Micro-needling is performed with a device whose head contains 12 sterile, hypodermic needles, which makes an allergic reaction nearly impossible. However, in conjunction with the micro-needling procedure a variety of products may be used on the face; those products could cause an allergic reaction. Additionally, since micro-needling increases the penetration of topical substances, it could cause you to become hypersensitive to products used on the face. If an allergic reaction were to occur, you must contact our office immediately, as it may require further treatment.
LACK OF PERMANENT RESULT – Micro-needling will not completely or permanently improve skin texture, tone, elasticity, hyperpigmentation, or scars, or minimize fine lines and wrinkles. It is important that your expectations be realistic and you understand that the procedure has its limitations. Additional procedures may be necessary to achieve your desired effect.
UNSATISFACTORY RESULT – Although rare from micro-needling, there is a possibility of a poor result from any cosmetic procedure. Micro-needling may induce undesirable results, including but not limited to skin sloughing, scarring, permanent pigment change, and/or other undesirable skin changes. There is always a possibility that you may be disappointed with the final results of micro-needling.
When will you see results?
Patients may notice healthier looking skin right away. However, keep in mind that dermal collagen remodeling occurs over time and it would not be realistic to expect damage that has happened to the skin over a long period of time to disappear right away. We suggest a series of 4-6 sessions depending on what the treatment is for. Individuals may not see final results until 3-6 months following the last appointment.
